Kissa Kahani, meaning "anecdotes and stories," is a Ci3 intervention that uses storytelling, multimedia, and games to bring sexual and reproductive health education to adolescents in India. Before any of those materials existed, the team spent two years on formative research with young people in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, using methods like digital storytelling, body mapping, and games.

I supported the team's research throughout this phase. For example, I developed the Analogous Examples for Concept Generation card deck for a planning and strategy workshop with researchers, designers, and public health experts from Chicago and India. The team wanted to work with 26 international interventions, each documented in different formats and levels of detail which had to become comparable at a glance for people with very different expertise. I built a shared structure for each card, grouping interventions into four program areas that mirrored the research themes and distilling each into its description, evaluation, target population, location, and outcomes. I then translated the more abstract layers into visual form: color-coded icons for domains, a four-step scale for strength of evidence, and a nested diagram placing each program within the socio-ecological model, from individual to policy. Because the cards were physical and consistent, participants could lay them out, sort them by program area, domain, or transferable strategy, and see patterns across very different programs. The deck pushed the team beyond the approaches emerging from their own research and helped them build a meta-framework for how interventions across program areas might work together. These insights shaped further workshop iterations on site in India, which led to the development of Kissa Kahani's animated stories, graphic novels, and classroom games.
