Kissa Kahani, meaning "anecdotes and stories," is a Ci3 intervention that uses storytelling, multimedia, and games to bring sexual and reproductive health education to adolescents in India. Before any of those materials existed, the team spent two years on formative research with young people in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, using methods like digital storytelling, body mapping, and games. Three themes surfaced most strongly: menstruation, girls' public safety, and sexual and reproductive health and family planning. The next challenge was turning those insights into interventions.

I supported the team's research throughout this phase, and for a planning workshop with researchers, designers, and public health experts from Chicago and India, I developed the Analogous Examples for Concept Generation card deck. The deck began as a spreadsheet: 26 international interventions, rich in detail but hard to think with. The design turned each row into a card with a consistent anatomy, so a bicycle program in Bihar could sit beside a menstrual health initiative and be read the same way. Abstract layers became visual ones: color-coded icons for domains, a four-step scale for strength of evidence, and nested rings placing each program within the socio-ecological model. Built to work alongside the workshop's other tools, the cards could be laid against program levels and the project's theory of change, letting participants move between examples, frameworks, and their own ideas on the same table. Laid out on the table, the cards could be sorted by program area, domain, or strategy, revealing patterns across very different programs. They pushed the team past the approaches already emerging from their research and toward new framings for how interventions might work together. Those insights carried into further workshops in India, shaping what became Kissa Kahani's animated stories, graphic novels, and classroom games.
